Message to Our Community
Lancaster General Health Board of Trustees
For Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health, 2018 was a year of looking back and looking forward.
We celebrated Lancaster General Hospital’s beginnings in a three-story residence at 322 North Queen Street into a modern, sophisticated system that offers patients virtually every possible health service, from research, prevention and screening to highly specialized treatments.
We also celebrated significant investments made in our community, highlighted by the openings of the Frederick Building at Lancaster General Hospital and the Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital; both of which were designed to meet our community’s increasingly diverse health needs.
From modest beginnings, our comprehensive system of care includes 8,500 employees working at four hospitals, 18 outpatient centers, home health care, surgery centers and urgent cares, as well as a network of more than 600 primary-care providers and specialists throughout the region.
Our knowledge about health and healthcare has also expanded. We remain on the forefront of advancements that make our care safer, more effective, and responsive to the needs of our community.
Each day, the employees and physicians of LG Health, as a team, are dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of our community, focusing relentlessly on quality and safety, and advocating for improvement in health care access and delivery.
Such dedication delivers results: LGH became one of only seven hospitals nationwide in 2018 to simultaneously hold the highest, five-star quality rating by Medicare; be among Healthgrades’ America’s 50 Best Hospitals list; hold an “A” safety grade from the Leapfrog Group; and be ranked by U.S. News as a High Performing Hospital in all nine adult procedures and conditions.
Our founders probably did not envision the large and sophisticated organization LG Health would become. But we believe they would be pleased to know that we continue to honor the tradition they established from our very beginning—to always listen to the voice of our community and let that voice guide us in responding to unmet needs.
Throughout this Annual Report, you will find stories of health, people and progress that define our organization. On behalf of the patients we serve, and those throughout LG Health who provide their care every day, we thank you for your continued support.
