Lancaster General Executive Leadership

Lancaster General Health Board of Trustees

Throughout 2019, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health continued to grow and invest in our services, facilities and people, all in service to the community that has supported and sustained us for more than 125 years. We deeply appreciate the support and guidance you provided us.

Lancaster General Hospital took steps to address the additional demand for emergency services by adding a temporary modular unit with additional treatment spaces. While this has provided much needed relief, we continued planning for a large expansion and renovation to LGH to ensure we can serve anyone in our community needing care. We also added a seventh urgent care in Elizabethtown with expanded clinical capabilities to help provide convenient alternative options to emergency care.

Additionally we completed the transition to all-private inpatient rooms at LGH that began with the 2018 opening of the Frederick Building. This long-awaited investment ensures all patients are provided with the privacy and protection they deserve.

We continued to strengthen our clinical offerings throughout Lancaster County and the region, including the addition of the Seraph-McSparren Pediatric Inpatient Center, new specialty practices and the county’s first adolescent behavioral health inpatient unit, at Lancaster Behavioral Health Hospital.

We also launched an expansion of our Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute’s comprehensive suite of clinical services, pursuing proton therapy and expanded clinical trials to further enable patients to remain within Lancaster County for comprehensive and coordinated cancer care.

In 2019, we had much to celebrate. LGH was one of just nine hospitals nationwide to earn prestigious recognitions for quality and safety: a 5-Star Quality Rating from CMS, an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group and a spot on Healthgrades’ America’s 50 Best Hospitals list. Our Accountable Care Organization was the lowest-cost ACO in the state.

We also celebrated the 50th anniversary of our groundbreaking Family Medicine Residency Program and we were honored to receive the Foster G. McGaw Prize for Excellence in Community Service in recognition of our long-standing commitment to addressing community health priorities.

Throughout this Annual Report, you will find stories that showcase LG Health’s dedication to advancing the health and well-being of the communities we serve. On behalf of our more than 9,000 employees and providers who provide high-quality, compassionate health care every day, we thank you for supporting LG Health and entrusting your care to us. It is an honor to serve you.
